Subject: blue cluster hardware shuffle

The blue cluster effort got going before the actual hardware (rs6000 model
C20) was delivered. we used spare homers as the makeshift blues (rs6000
model 250)

the actual hardware arrived recently and i have swapped out the spare
homer hardware tonight for the real hardware. because these new
machines were not cloned, i left the old ones around and gave
them new names. they will be useful for referencing and testing
but eventually they should be going back to the homer spares pool.

thus:

	blue01 (250) was renamed to blue03

	bluems01 (250) was renamed to bluems02

	new C20 is now blue01

new C20 is now bluems01, and also has the disks containing
	/cl27, /bluems01 and /rx01.

new C20 to be called blue02, not installed yet

so if you login to blue01 or bluems01 and notice differences, you can
check with their predecessors blue03 and bluems02. and please let me know
if it is an OS related glitch. we have a report from NDC that there's an
NFS bug in 4.1 that causes pine problems.

11/28/95

The "Blue" cluster has been setup on a pair of RS/6000 model 250s
running AIX 4.1. The Homer psh environment is being cloned onto
Blue. The model 250s will be replaced with the C20s when they
arrive in January.

Lori will be meeting with David Wall and MCIS to evaluate options
for moving existing UA accounts to the new cluster.

11/15/95

Donn has identified 3423 UA accounts out of a file of 7082 medical
personnel who will need to be moved to the clinical email cluster.
Breakdown: 3190 carson/homer, 941 saul/mead, 382 max. Will need to
develop a migration plan after Lori returns from vacation on Nov 27.

Eliot is building a starter cluster named "Blue" from spare Homer
RS/6000 250s. These machines (2 128MB 250s) will replaced by RS/6000
model C20s in late Dec or early Jan. The C20's require AIX 4.1.3, so
Eliot will build the starter system using AIX 4.1.3. The initial
evironment will be similar to Homer. Modifications to psh and/or
installation of additional products will be done after the test group
of accounts are setup.
