Ongoing requests for system benchmarking have resulted in significant time being spent developing and tailoring software to profile and simulate the workload of individual systems. Benchmarking library circulation searches under BRS and III are good examples.
Addressing benchmarking, profiling workloads and capacity planning on a
broader scale would reduce this type of development effort and assist in
tracking resource demands across all of our clusters and servers. After
reviewing available vendor capacity planning systems, we have decided to
persue a joint effort with DEC to build data collectors for their Capacity
Planner product for platforms other than DEC. These will initially include
AIX and HP. We will also port the DEC modeling software to AIX.
