Uniform Namespace and Security

The goal of this project is to converge the C&C account namespace into a uniform set of single UID/ login name/ primary password per individual to be served by network security servers. The project includes deployment of a DCE cell for all Uniform Access machines and use of of Kerberos 5 clients by UCS/ NDC and eventually campus users.

The system represents a new design point for the Uniform Access environment rather than a retrofit of any existing system. The project is made up of personnel from each of the C&C units and coordinated by Lori Stevens and Yonah Karp. Currently, major work is in progress in the following areas:

SSL (NDC/ IS)

This project will also review the existing Uniform Access account system and design a new system integrated with the planned security/ authentication service. Future work will include client services tools for account management, a rewrite of the Uniform Access accounting reconciliation system (currently on VMS) which will incorporate elements of DCE security.
