Characterizing exoplanets, their host stars, and life on Earth, while contributing to open source software.

Research

I work on a variety of observational projects from studying star spots of planet-hosting stars in the Kepler field with Leslie Hebb, Jim Davenport and Suzanne Hawley, to transmission spectroscopy of giant planet atmospheres with Keck Observatory with Avi Mandell and others at NASA GSFC, to transit timing variation observations with Eric Agol.

This year I’m proud to be the academic mentor and a research mentor for the UW Pre-MAP program, where I lead an undergraduate-powered search for zombie planets orbiting white dwarfs called SPAMS, the Search for Planets Around post-Main sequence Stars.

Open Source

I am co-maintainer of the astropy-affiliated package for observation planning called astroplan. See what I’m working on on GitHub.
