AN ACT TO: Create an ASUW Radio Station Task Force

 

WHEREAS: The ASUW Student Senate supports creation of an ASUW radio station,

 

WHEREAS: The Student Senate voted for the ASUW Board of Control to create a task force to find the feasibility of creating a radio station on campus,

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON BOARD OF CONTROL:

 

THAT: The committee shall look into, and begin the process for all aspects of the radio station including: all the financial options, where the facility can be located, what frequencies it can use, licensing, who will run the radio station, all personnel and budgeting aspects, and how strong of a signal it will have, will it be paid for by fundraising or student fees.

 

THAT: The Committee shall research all information from other college stations, KCMU, local radio stations, and the National Broadcasting Company, or any other necessary facets.

 

THAT: All of the to-date findings of the Task Force will be presented to the Board of Control in the form of a report and a presentation before the end of the Spring Quarter 1999, however, the complete findings of the committee shall be presented to the Board by October 30, 2001.

 

THAT: The Director of Development and Technology will organize this committee and the membership shall be open to students at-large and shall be appointed by the Vice President through the Governance process, including a presidential proxy.

 

THAT:  The report provided by the committee will draw out specific routes the ASUW can take to bring about a radio station. 

 

THAT:  The report will include:   

- the different funding possibilities (fundraising v. advertising on the air).

- the personnel possibilities (will it be entirely student run, will they be volunteer DJ’s will they get credit, etc.)

- where can the radio station be located

-what air waves will it use

-what license will it use

 

THAT:  While researching the radio station, the committee will apply for, and request the appropriate licenses, and permits, as well as applying for the specific airwaves.
