ACP Clinician Researcher Award
Dr. John Sorensen has received the 2018 Clinician/Researcher Award from the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP). The award honors outstanding contributions to academic dentistry, prosthodontics, and the sciences.
“This is the highest honor I have ever received, and I could not be more proud,” Dr. Sorensen said. “While I enjoy answering clinical questions through research, the best part of my academic career is mentoring the next generation of prosthodontists in their research and discovery.”
Dr. Sorensen, who joined UW in October 2012, has recruited more than $1 million in corporate-sponsored research during his career and published more than 90 academic works. In 2003, he founded the Pacific Dental Institute in Portland, Ore., where he conducted clinical trials and materials testing and hosted continuing-education programs. He also directed the Advanced Prosthodontics Program at UCLA for nine years.
At the UW, Dr. Sorensen directs research for our Graduate Prosthodontics program as well as the Biomimetics, Biomaterials, Biophotonics, Biomechanics & Technology Laboratory (B4T). He is also one of the leaders of our developing digital dentistry initiative, and is a Fellow of the ACP and a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics.
We’re proud of this outstanding dentist, who wears multiple hats — dental educator, clinician, and researcher — with such distinction.
