Key Publication on SDF-GI in the Journal of Dentistry

Nousha Panahpour of SOD class of 2021 and summer research fellow of B4T published her full manuscript on the synergy of silver diammine fluoride and glass ionomer for remineralization of natural dentin caries using state of the art X-ray micro-CT facility at UW. The results clarify that one or two applications of SDF followed by GI coverage could remineralise advanced dentine caries in the presence of saliva. This procedure carries potential in the treatment of difficult lesions where conventional restorations would require significant tooth structure removal through traumatic procedures. The results also demonstrate that restoration of tooth with conventional GIC following application and rinsing of silver diammine fluoride has better outcome in terms of the mineral gain for the tooth, when compared to any of the two alone.
