Personal blurb

Broadly, I am interested in understanding protein sequence-structure-function relationships and their interplay with evolution. In the Baker lab, I am involved with projects concerning the design of enzymes and small-molecule binding proteins. The design of novel enzymes and binding proteins is not only of tremendous practical value for custom designed catalysts and biosensors, but is also a stringent test of our understanding of the fundamental biophysics of molecular recognition and catalysis.

Recent Results:

We have recently designed a new activity, organophosphate hydrolysis, into an existing enzyme, adenosine deaminase. (Nature Chemical Biology, in press)

We have obtained computationally designed binding proteins for two different small molecule ligands. (in progress)
