My exchange program included many other Europeans, from Finland, Estonia, and Germany. They all lived together in the dorms and had lots of silly fun. One night they all just happened to be wearing stripes, so with stars on the Americans' cheeks and stripes on their shirts, we became "stars and stipes." Cheezy, I know.

Paddy Whalens was a favorite place to hang out and listen to Irish music played by Latvians. And you couldn't beat the Bombardier beer!

Dickens was the British pub, and nearly everyone inside spoke English so it wasn't that great. Here I'm pictured with Jerome from France, Janis, and Branko (originally from Crotia).

A group of Czech students lived in Riga for a month and I took a few classes with them. Lenka, pictured with me, was my favorite Czech and a lot of fun to hang out with.

Here's the rest of the group at the local jazz club in Riga, Club Dizzy.
