Admissions

Thank you for your interest in the Graduate Program in Neurobiology and Behavior at the University of Washington. Our Program accepts applications for Autumn Quarter admission only.

We are currently accepting applications on-line only via the University of Washington Graduate Admissions site:

UW 2007 On-Line Application

All materials and/or on-line submissions must be received on or before December 1, 2007 by the Graduate Program in Neurobiology and Behavior to be considered for Autumn 2008 admission. Application materials received after this deadline will be reviewed at the discretion of the Admissions Committee.

International applicants have a deadline of November 1, 2007. (If you are an international student, please click here to access the Pre-Evaluation Process that must be completed before your application will be processed by the UW Graduate School).

An international student is anyone who IS NOT a U.S. citizen and does not hold a U.S. Permanent Resident Visa (i.e., "Green Card or Immigrant"). International applicants are those who currently hold or expect U.S. visas.  This includes holders of H1-B, J-1 exchange visitors or any other non-immigrant classifications.

International Applicants: You must also send a paper set of application materials to the Office of Graduate Admissions, Box 84808, 301 Loew Hall, Seattle, WA 98124-6108. No paper applications should be sent to the Neurobiology & Behavior Program. Your entire application process should be on-line only for the Neurobiology & Behavior Program.

If you are an international student, you are required by the Graduate school to submit official transcripts with the original application and fee. The Neurobiology & Behavior application process is on-line through the UW Graduate School.

To increase your probability of acceptance to our Program, international students are highly encouraged to find a lab before the deadline date of November 1.

Here are the basic steps to completing the on-line application for prospective students:

  1. Go to the UW Grad School application site:
    https://www.grad.washington.edu/applForAdmiss/
  2. If you have not already done so create a Login ID and password.
  3. Follow the Neurobiology and Behavior application instructions through the Graduate School web site.
  4. Fill out the on-line application form.
  5. Online recommendations: Type in the 3 recommender's names. Make sure you have selected "Online". Once you submit the names, your recommenders will receive an automatic email telling them which web site to go to for uploading or copy-and-pasting the recommendation(s). After they have submitted the recommendation, you will then receive an email stating that the recommendation process has been completed. You can monitor the status of each recommendation on the application web site.
  6. Complete the online process by paying the application fee using your credit or debit card and submitting the on-line application.
  7. You will then receive payment confirmation.

Part of the on-line application allows you to insert your CV, and a Statement of Purpose into the actual application. PLEASE NOTE: Three letters of recommendation are required. We cannot guarantee that your letters will be seen by the Admissions Committee if you mail us paper copies.

GRE scores should be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to the Office of Graduate Admissions: (Use UW GRE code = 4854 only.)

GRE Score Reports - Please request registration forms or previous score reports from the Educational Testing Service (http://www.ets.org). Scores must be less than 5 years old. A Subject Test in the discipline of your choice is recommended, but not required.
TOEFL Score (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - Please see University of Washington Graduate Admissions website for details. Only official TOEFL scores may be submitted.

You must upload your unoffical transcripts into the application. We do not accept paper transcripts.

It is necessary that applicants keep this time period open, including the preceeding day for travel.
