Studio 503: Design Activism; Escuela Ecologica Saludable Initiative, Parque Primaria, Lima, Peru. and the corresponding Summer Exploration Seminar in Peru, both led by Professor Ben Spencer, are among the top three internationally recognized award winning design projects for their work in the informal settlement of Lomas de Zapallal outside of Lima, Peru.

Green Futures Lab received a planning grant from the TKF Foundation to team up with the Pomegranate Center and Earthcorps on a project titled "Reflections: People on the Waterfront." The University of Washington team led by Professor Ken Yocom and Adjunct Professsor Manish Chalana is among the winners for the stage 1 of the competition sponsored by Van Allen Institute and National Parks Service. The international competition entitled "Street Works" was created and managed by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) and designed to enliven underutilized urban spaces throughout the City of Sydney in accordance with the Sydney: Vision in 2030 Plan
2011 UW MLA Graduate Kristi Park's winning entry was located in the Redfern neighborhood on Redfern between Gibbons and Regents, a narrow pedestrian/utility corridor that lacked architectural interest and was described as a "harsh urban environment". Five design schemes were chosen in total out of 67 entries from seven different countries.

The first annual exhibition and fundraiser event launched on October 17th in Gould Court. Over a hundred design professionals, students and alums gathered to view the inspiring breadth of work on display. The exhibit will stay in Gould Court through October 28th, 2011.
