This fund was established by donors Helene Starks, PhD (UW Associate Professor, Department of Bioethics & Humanities) and her husband, Ian Mackay, in honor of the exceptional impact that their dear friend Dr. Burke’s research legacy has made to better the health of individuals from diverse communities. A small group of individuals close to Dr. Burke have also generously contributed to the fund.
Wylie Burke, MD, PhD is Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Department of Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Washington, Adjunct Professor of Medicine (in the Division of Medical Genetics), and Member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Her work focuses on the ethical and policy implications of genetic information in research, public health, and clinical care.
