Joint US/Uruguay Workshop on Neuronal Coding

The Joint US/Uruguay Workshop on Neuronal Coding was held in conjunction with the biennial Neural Coding meeting. The workshop was held in Montevideo, Uruguay on November 5-7, 2007 at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biologicas Clemente Estable of the Universidad de la República.

The workshop included lectures by faculty from South America and the US on topics such as entropy and mutual information, recursive auto associative memories, dynamical systems, and numerical methods in biological simulation. There were also talks given by the student attendees, including spike timing in the auditory system, correlation properties in simulated neural networks, oscillation in olfactory bulb, wrist stabilization, prions, sound coding in owl midbrain, and plasticity in avian midbrain. The workshop also included extensive lab visits within Montevideo, both at the Instituto Clemente Estable and the School of Medicine.

Student participation from the US was supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation (OISE 0652336).
