The Bioengineering Seminar meets Thursday, April 6 from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. in Foege N130A (the Bioengineering Seminar Room). Dr. Paolo Vicini, Associate Professor of Bioengineering, will present "Computational Bioengineering Applications to Clinical Research: Examples from the Resource Facility for Population Kinetics."
BIOEN 511, the Biomaterials Seminar, meets Thursday, April 6 from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. in Benson 117. Dr. Marc Fortin, Post-Doctoral Researcher in Applied Physics at Linköpings Universitet, Sweden, will present "Radioimmuno-PET and Magnetic Oxide Nanoparticles for Targeting Cancer Cells: A Dual Approach." Dr. Roger Michel, Bioengineering Senior Fellow, will present "Advances in Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry Analysis of Protein Films."
Chemical Engineering at the University of Houston, will present "Mechanisms of Homogeneous Nucleation of Polymers of Sickle Cell Anemia Hemoglobin in Deoxy State."
"Multiscale Transport of Physiological Fluids" is the title of a special lecture on Thursday, April 6 at 10 a.m. in Foege N130A (the Bioengineering Seminar Room). Dr. Andrzej (Andy) Matuszkiewicz, UW Bioengineering Senior Research Scientist in Dr. James Bassingthwaighte's lab, is the speaker.
Three graduate students in Dr. James Bryers's lab have been selected to receive NSF fellowships. Congratulations to Kyung Park, Kristy Katzenmeyer, Jackie Callihan, and their advisor, as well as to Dr. Kirk Beach and his advisee Asanka Dewaraja, also selected.
The first BMES meeting of the quarter will be Thursday, April 6 at 5:30 p.m. in HSB T-639. Dr. Wendy Thomas, UW Bioengineering Assistant Professor, will present "Journey to a Faculty Position." Officer elections will be held (see http://students.washington.edu/bmesuw/) and pizza and drinks will be served.
The BMES Industry Mixer on Thursday, April 6 at 4:15 at the UW Club features Dr. Christopher McInnes (UW bioengineering alum who helped develop the Sonicare toothbrush), Ms. Karen Hedine (President/CEO of Micronics, Inc), and Mr. Trevor Moody (general partner at Frazier Healthcare Ventures).
