Zhongli Zhang will have his MS final examination Tuesday, April 18 at 10 a.m. in the WRF Conference Room (Foege N230). His thesis title is "Spatial Nonuniformity of Haversian Canals and Disuse-Induced Cortical Resorption Cavities." Drs. Ted Gross (chair; Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine and adjunct in Bioengineering), James Bassingthwaighte, and Michael Regnier are his MS committee members.

Jennifer Flexman will have her PhD general examination Thursday, April 20 at 9:30 a.m. in the Auth Conference Room (Foege N503). The title of her examination is "Non-Invasive Tracking of Stem Cell Migration in the Brain Using Contrast-Enhanced MRI." Drs. Yongmin Kim (co-chair), Satoshi Minoshima (co-chair; Radiology and adjunct in Bioengineering), Patrick Stayton, Dayong Gao (GSR; Mechanical Engineering), and Chun Yuan (Radiology) are her supervisory committee members.

The Bioengineering Seminar meets Thursday, April 20 from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. in the Bioengineering Seminar Room. Kristi Bezold, Bioengineering undergraduate student, will present "Effects of EMD 57033 on Force Production and Kinetics of Cardiac Muscle." Christian Kikuchi, also a Bioengineering undergraduate, will present "Nevirapine as an Imaging Target for Magnetic Resonance Force Microscopy."

BIOEN 511, the Biomaterials Seminar, meets Thursday, April 20 from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. in Benson 117. Chi-Ying Lee, Chemical Engineering graduate student, will present "Characterization of DNA-Functionalized Surfaces for Microarray and Biosensor Applications." Sariah Khormaee, Bioengineering undergraduate student, will present "Ex-Vivo Generation of Corneal Epithelial Layers on Temperature Responsive Surfaces."

BIOEN 599F, the Nanotechnology Seminar, meets Tuesday, April 18 from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. in Bagley 260. Dr. John Smythe of Micron Technology, Inc. will present "A Perspective on the Materials and Integration Challenges at 55 nm and Beyond."

The BMES Alumni Panel on Life in Industry after Graduate School will feature UW Bioengineering alums speaking on the transition from grad school to industry, the pros and cons of working in industry, how they got their first jobs, how they're balancing work and family, and much more. The panel will be held Tuesday, April 18 from 1:30 to 3:30 in the Bioengineering Seminar Room.
