Bioengineering Weekly Announcements

The Bioengineering Seminar meets Thursday, May 11 from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. in the Bioengineering Seminar Room. Dr. Zhi-Pei Liang, professor of electrical and computer engineering and of bioengineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign, will present "Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Opportunities and Challenges."

BIOEN 511, the Biomaterials Seminar, meets Thursday, May 11 from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. in Benson 117. Tyrel Goodman, Bioengineering graduate student, will present "Increasing Nanoparticle Penetration into Solid Tumor Tissue." Suzanne Flanary, also a Bioengineering graduate student, will present "Enhanced Cytosolic Delivery of Protein Vaccine Antigens using pH-Sensitive, Membrane-Disruptive Polymers."

BIOEN 599F, the Nanotechnology Seminar, meets Tuesday, May 9 from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. in Bagley 260. Dr. Michael J. McShane, associate professor of biomedical engineering and research associate at the Institute for Micromanufacturing at Louisiana Tech University, will present "Microcapsule Biochemical Sensors: Assembling Molecules into Useful Micro/Nanosystems."

Congratulations to Bioengineering graduate student Alicia Moreno-Gonzalez, who was one of only three 2005 Poster Award winners (out of 800 posters) at the national BMES Annual Meeting. Her advisor is Dr. Michael Regnier, and her poster was titled "Mechanical Properties of Cardiac Tissue Transplanted into Infarcted Hearts."

Dr. Elias Zerhouni, director of the National Institutes of Health, will present "Medical Imaging: Innovation, Integration, and Improvement" today (Monday, May 8) at 5 p.m. in Hogness Auditorium for the Department of Radiology's first annual Albert A. Moss Lecture in Imaging Sciences.
