**Suzanne Flanary and Angela Collie, graduate students in the Stayton/Hoffman Laboratory, were awarded STAR (Student Travel Achievement Recognition) Awards for their abstracts to the Society for Biomaterials 2006 Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The STAR awards are for outstanding student contributions and include a travel stipend of $250.

**Bioengineering BS graduate Kenneth Garbo Liu is one of two students receiving the College of Engineering Dean’s Medal for Academic Excellence on Thursday, June 1. Students were selected for academic excellence, research and industry experience, and campus and community involvement, based partly on faculty and staff recommendation letters. Drs. Patrick Stayton and Allan Hoffman were his capstone research supervisors.

**At the next BMES General Meeting, Dr. Richard Deyo (UW Medicine, Health Services) will talk about improvements to systems that allow unsafe or inefficacious medical devices to be used in healthcare. The meeting will be Thursday, June 1 at 5:30 p.m. in the Bioengineering Seminar Room (Foege N130). Leah Lockyer will speak on the resources available from Kaplan Test Prep, as well.
