Dr. Mei Speer, a research scientist in Dr. Cecilia Giachelli’s laboratory, will give a talk titled “Mechanisms of Ectopic Calcification and Cell Differentiation.” The talk will be in the Bioengineering Seminar Room (Foege N130A) on Thursday, June 8 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Dr. Speer is a research assistant professor candidate.

**Two faculty will represent the Department of Bioengineering for the 2006-2007 Science in Medicine Lecture series, sponsored by the School of Medicine and the Council on Research and Graduate Education. Dr. Cecilia Giachelli will present a Science in Medicine Lecture. Dr. Suzie Pun will present a New Investigator Lecture and receive an award of $1,000 from the Dean’s Office to support any aspect of her research. Dates for the talks are not yet set.

Dr. In-Kyu Park, a senior fellow in Dr. Suzie Pun’s lab, received an “Excellent in Research” award at the American Society of Gene Therapy 9th Annual Meeting, held May 31 through June 4 in Baltimore, Maryland. The award was given to eight people (out of over 1000 abstracts received).
