Dr. Siddhartha Sikdar, a senior fellow in Dr. Yongmin Kim’s lab, received a postdoctoral fellowship from the AHA’s Pacific Mountain Affiliate Research Committee, to begin July 1. The title of his project is “Ultrasonic Doppler Vibrometry: Novel Method for Diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease Using Cardiac Tissue Vibrations.” A total of 25 applications (15 percent) were funded out of 171 applications reviewed.
Michael Cobb, a Bioengineering PhD candidate in Dr. Xingde Li’s lab, received the Biomedical Optics Student Award from the Optical Society of America (OSA). Michael’s presentation was ranked among the top three and earned him an award of $500, funded by the NSF.
A paper Dr. Xingde Li's group had published in the April 15 issue of Optics Letters was summarized in May’s Biophotonics International in an article titled “Whirling-fiber endoscope allows two-photon imaging.”
Program on Technology Commercialization (PTC) Fellows for this summer (June 16-September 15) have been chosen. Each fellow will receive a $10,000 award, and each team will develop a business plan for a UW Bioengineering technology. Congratulations to Ismail Tutar (EE) and Jason Thane (non-matriculated), whose project is "Intraoperative Prostate Brachytherapy Dosimetry"; Michele Solano (Nursing Science), Yang Mo Yoo (Bioengineering), and Anup Agarwal (EE), "Screening and Monitoring of Diabetic Ulcers with Ultrasound"; and Shivang Dave (Bioengineering) and Saumil Gandhi (ME) "Intraocular Lens Drug Delivery Haptic Sleeves to Mitigate Post-Operative Infections."
