Grading Policy: Grades will be awarded on a credit/no credit (CR/NC) basis as follows:
A. Students who attend the lecture in-person:
- Must actively participate in lectures
- Must write a minimum of THREE (3) 1-page critiques on lectures of his or her choosing, see guidelines below
- (If a student misses one lecture, he or she is not required to write a critique of the lecture missed, but critiques must be written for each lecture missed after the first.)
B. Students who are unable to attend the lecture in-person:
- Must watch the lectures online
- Submit 9 out of 10 1-page critiques on the weekly lectures during the quarter
Lecture critique guidelines:
- Critique is limited to one page, Word format, font size=11 or 12, saved as .pdf)
- Critiques should be submitted in .pdf format as an attachment to bioetalk@uw.edu, preferably soon after the lecture, and all by Thursday, March 18 2010 for Winter quarter, and Thursday June 10, 2010 for Spring quarter. THE SUBJECT OF YOUR EMAIL SHOULD BE "Your Lastname First initial, Lecture # Critique". For example "Yager P., Lecture 1 Critique"
- Describe weak and strong points; good and bad features
- Identify important principles
- New information gathered; new things learned
- Present your perspectives on lecture’s topic
- Criticize the presentation itself. How could it be improved?
