All application materials must be received (not postmarked) in the appropriate office or submitted in the online application by Dec. 1, 2012 in order to be considered for admission. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be reviewed. We are unable to make any exceptions to this policy.
Selected candidates interviews: during March 21-24, 2013. We are unable to interview applicants at any other time.
Required materials
All application materials will now be received via the online application unless given explicit directions by the Department or the Graduate School.
UW Graduate School Application Materials
- One (1) Graduate School Application completed online (includes $75 application fee)
Department of Bioengineering Application Materials
- Official GRE scores, taken within 5 years, directly reported from ETS to UW Bioengineering
- UW institutional code: 4854
Departmental codes are no longer required as all exam scores are sent directly to the University's Graduate School for sorting; however, applicants are welcome to use code 1603
- Unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended must be uploaded into the Graduate School online application (a randomly selected official transcript will be requested by the Graduate School only after departmental offer).
- Three (3) letters of recommendation (Please see the Graduate School Application for more information).
- If any of your letter of recommendation writers prefer to use postal mail instead of the online system, their letters should be sent to the Department of Bioengineering at the address below along with the paper version of the letter of recommendation evaluation form

UW Graduate School Application Requirements Quick Reference Checklist:

Required Materials
The Graduate School will now only require additional application materials (official transcripts, financial ability form, copy of visa, etc.) from international applicants when they are recommended for admission by the graduate program. The Graduate School will contact the international applicant at the time the additional materials are required.
UW Graduate School Application Materials

- Official TOEFL scores, (or other UW-approved English language proficiency exams), taken within 2 years, directly reported from ETS to UW Bioengineering
- UW institutional code: 4854
- Department code: 99 or leave blank
Note: English language proficiency exam scores will only be waived for United States citizens; citizens of the following countries: Austrailia, the Bahamas, Canada, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, or the United Kingdom; or for students who have earned their bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution in one of the countries listed above at the time of application.
Applicants who are:
- Non-US citizens and citizens from countires other than those listed above who have not yet earned their degree from an institution in one of the countries listed above at the time of application
- Applicants who are earning their degrees from a regionally accredited institution in a country other than those listed above
must submit an official TOEFL score (or other UW-approved English proficiency exam), less than 2 years old, in order for the application to be considered complete. Paper copies of official and unofficial transcripts are no longer accepted by the Department and the University Graduate School as they have now moved to an entirely online system.
