Senior awarded Dean's Medal for Academic Excellence

BioE senior Kathy Wei was awarded the Dean's Medal for Academic Excellence for 2009. She is one of two College of Engineering students to receive the honor. Brian Pepin, Electrical Engineering, also received a medal.
Kathy is completing a double-degree in Bioengineering and Computer Science and researches in the lab of Suzie Pun.
Kathy has also won the Goldwater, National Science Foundation, and National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate fellowships. She will be pursuing a PhD at Stanford this fall.
Students were chosen for academic excellence, research and industry experience, campus and community involvement, and faculty recommendations. The medals will be presented at Community of Innovators Awards ceremony at 3:30-5 pm, June 4 in the Don James Center.
The UW Department of Bioengineering is ranked second in the nation for the number of NSF and NDSEG fellowships awarded in 2009.
