Academic Programs
The Department of Bioengineering offers a variety of degree programs for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Our Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering is a degree that encompasses engineering, biology, and medicine. The undergraduate program prepares students for medical school, graduate school, and industry. Highly qualified students who can accelerate their study also have the option to work on a 5-year combined BS/MS program.
At the graduate level, the department offers Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. These graduate programs prepare individuals for independent and productive professional research careers in industry and academia. The department also participates in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) which gives students the ability to work on a combined MD/PhD program.
The department offers a part-time evening Master of Medical Engineering program designed for practicing engineers who want training and research in bioengineering, medicine, and biology as well.
In addition, the department offers the Program on Technology Commercialization (PTC), an interdisciplinary program designed to give senior undergraduates and graduate students the education and skill sets they need to move technologies to the market. The primary goal of this program is to train students well in not only their disciplines but also in commercializing technologies. (Please note that PTC will not be offered during the 07-08 academic year).
The Department of Bioengineering also is involved with outreach to high school students through the job shadow/visiting student program and summer camp.
