BioEngineering

International

International experience equips our students with the skills and savvy they need to compete in the global work environment—and that need has only grown as companies increasingly look offshore to hire technical and engineering employees. Our department has established extensive and geographically diverse collaborations with colleagues from industry, national labs, and other academic institutions, ranging from Australia and Japan to Switzerland, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. Our students have many opportunities to spend time in another country during their education and training.

As an example of these efforts, UW Bioengineering has entered into a five-year agreement with Singapore's Nanyang Technological University to collaborate on research. The Singapore-University of Washington Alliance has been focusing on two areas: tissue engineering and distributed diagnosis and home healthcare (D2H2). The department also hosts Singaporean students as part of the UW-NTU Joint Technopreneurship and Innovation Program (TIP). TIP is an intensive 16-week immersion program designed to equip students with the necessary skills to become successful entrepreneurs and take their potential to the next level.
