P. urbanianum
Paphiopedilum urbanianum

Not just for the students and faculty at the UW, the greenhouse enriches the botanical education of students of all ages, providing K-12 outreach programs, undergraduate and graduate research, and informational tours to the greater Seattle community. All this important work is done through the extrordinary efforts of those who work and volunteer their time to run the greenhouse. They have achieved a lot with very little, but with increased funding the greenhouse could accomplish much more toward fullfilling its mission. We welcome your support!

Please help us continue to enhance understanding of our wonderful plant kingdom by making a tax deductible gift to one of the following funds:

GREENHOUSE SUPPORT FUND (BGREEN)
Provides current use funds for our beautiful Botany Greenhouse that are essential to keeping the greenhouse alive and healthy. Current goals include:

  • Training and employment opportunities for graduate student docents to lead K-12 tours
  • Upgrading the facility and equipment to keep current with technology for climate control, media formulation, and irrigation techniques
  • Creating a more detailed and informative plant labeling system
  • Increasing maintenance funding for the collections and researching plant materials
  • Enhancing the biological pest control program at the greenhouse.

AYER GREENHOUSE ENDOWED FUND (AYERBO)
The greenhouse is funded in part by an endowment begun by the late Frederick Ayer II. This fund is built on a principle that yields its annual interest to fund costs associated with running the greenhouse in perpetuity.

MEDICINAL HERB GARDEN GIFT FUND (MEHERB)
Gifts to this fund are used to help preserve, maintain and improve the Medicinal Herb Garden so that faculty, students and staff as well as visitors from the community can enjoy this rich collection of medicinal plants. As one of the largest collections of its kind, it is an invaluable source of information about the uses of plants in medicine as practiced by many cultures throughout history up to and including the most modern applications.
