For over 15 years the Botany Greenhouse has provided local school children the opportunity to tour the plant collections and learn about adaptation and diversity in the plant world.
Greenhouse Tours
The Botany Greenhouse at the University of Washington offers tours of the living plant collections by appointment. The standard tour takes about one hour and focuses on adaptation and diversity within the plant world. There is no charge for this tour, however we appreciate receiving your feedback in the form of artwork, poetry, letters, thank you notes, or emails. Students' impressions of their experience at the Greenhouse are treasured and help to shape our program by providing us with valuable examples of student learning.
We have received many letters and thank you cards over the years. Take a look through some of our favorites.
Visitors to the Greenhouse can look forward to learning about insect-eating plants, ant-loving plants, plants that are sweet smelling, plants that have foul odors, orchids, cacti, and much more. Staff will also discuss plant research projects currently underway at the Greenhouse.
Tours are limited to 30 people due to the size of our facility. Our staff may elect to divide your group into two, so please prepare for this by delegating at least one adult to supervise each group. This would include quiet listening, staying with the group and not touching the plants. Thanks!
If you wish to extend your stay on campus, there are many other exciting field trip opportunities at the University of Washington. Information about tours of the Henry Art Gallery, Burke Museum, Kirsten Wind Tunnel, Fish Collection, etc. can be accessed at www.outreach.washington.edu/k12guide.
Parking on campus is limited. Please contact the
Traffic Sargeant at 206-543-9337 for information or go to the UW Parking website. We look forward to your visit!
