Seattle

Like most of Western Washington, Seattle has a mild, maritime climate, and weather in August is usually sunny and pleasant, with relatively low humidity. The average high and low temperatures in August are 75°F (24°C) and 55°F (13°C), respectively. Record highs and lows for the Seattle area in August are 99°F (37°C) and 44°F (7°C). Precipitation is usually low during August-- average rainfall is only about 1" (25 mm). However, weather can be cool and rainy in Seattle and Western Washington at any time of year.

Pacific Coast and Mountains

Weather on the coast and in the mountain passes is usually cooler than in Seattle. Average high and low coastal temperatures in August are 65-70°F (18-21°C) and ~50°F (10°C). Average high and low temperatures in the mountain passes in August are 60-65°F (16-18°C) and 40-50°F (4-10°C). Keep in mind that in the mountains many hiking trails reach much higher elevations, and conditions can be freezing at night. Average August rainfall on the coast and in the passes is slightly higher than in Seattle (2-3 in.; 50-75 mm).

Eastern Washington

Eastern Washington has a markedly different climate from Western Washington, and is hot and dry during the summer. Average highs are 85-90°F (29-32°C), average lows 55-60°F (13-16°C). Rain is unusual in Eastern Washington in August (< ~.5 in).
