Air Travel

The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SeaTac) is the major airport for the Pacific Northwest, so all major airlines come through this hub. August is prime tourist season for Seattle, so it's important to book as early as possible in order to ensure best fares. We would strongly encourage you to commit to a schedule as soon as you've read this paragraph!

If you need an agent, we are working with Katie Moulster Naess at our local Council Travel office. This agency is particularly well-versed in student travel, and has relatively low fares for last-minute reservations. Of course you can almost always do better if you plan ahead, and Katie can you help you with that as well. Katie can best be reached via her email: KMoulster@counciltravel.com; her phone is 206.632.2448 and her fax is 206.632.6770. Please be aware that Council Travel offices are independently run, so Katie only represents the Seattle office.

Airline Discounts: United Airlines is offering special fares for all attendees of the AOU meetings who use the UAL Special Meeting Desk to book their reservations. Earn a 5% discount off the lowest applicable fare, including First Class, or 10% off the mid-week coach fare. Book at least 60 days in advance and get an additional 5% off. You or your travel agent must call their toll free number at 1.800.521.4041 (Su-Sa 7:00-22:00 ET) and reference Meeting ID Code 560EB. Please be advised that this special discount is available only through this number and is NOT available online.

Since the Society of Canadian Ornithologists will be jointly hosting these meetings in Seattle, we have been able to secure Air Canada as a conference co-carrier to provide conference discounts. Simply contact Air Canada's North American toll free number at 1.800.361.7585 or local number 514.393.9494 or your travel agent and take advantage of Special Discounted Airfares. Our convention number is CV809782. Please be sure to use our convention numbers when booking your reservations. These will not only offer you significant savings, but will provide important data for planning future conferences.

Once you've landed: There are a number of alternatives to get from the airport to campus, from taxis as the most expensive ($35-50) to Metro buses ($1.25). A good compromise is Shuttle Express, a reliable door-to-door van shuttle for $23 to campus dorms or $16 to hotels for first traveler; less for subsequent travelers in the same group. There is a Ground Transportation Information Booth at each end of the Baggage Claim area, near Doors 6 and 26 -- they can advise you on all modes of transport. Alternatively, you can go to the airport's excellent website.
