External Advisory Board

Bios of the BRAINS external advisory board members)

The External Advisory Board is comprised of eight senior scientists and faculty members in neuroscience-related fields across the nation. Each board member has a strong history of supporting and advocating for diversity within the neurosciences. Like the Internal Advisory Board, members of the External Advisory Board also provide guidance to the BRAINS program in areas such as participant recruitment and symposium topics and panelists.

  • Dr. Scott Edwards, Alexander Agassiz Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University and Curator of Ornithology in the Museum of Comparative Zoology
  • Dr. Anne Etgen, Professor of Neuroscience at Albert Einstein College of Medicine
  • Dr. Joe Martinez, Professor of Neurobiology at the University of Texas at San Antonio
  • Dr. Nino Ramirez, Professor of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington
  • Dr. Eric Turner, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Washington
  • Dr. Barbara Wakimoto, Professor of Biology at the University of Washington
  • Dr. Gary Westbrook, Professor of Neurology at Oregon Health and Sciences University
  • Dr. Cedric Williams, Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia
