Emotion Regulation Study

The bio-behavioral model of BPD underpinning DBT was derived from basic research on emotions that suggests that a dysfunction in the emotional regulation system is a core component of the disorder. The main purpose of this study is to develop a battery of multi-method instruments to assess emotion regulation deficits. In the pilot phase of this study, which has been completed, we identified, evaluated, and developed several self-report, physiological, and experience sampling based measures. In the main phase of the study, we aim to test and validate the finalized assessment battery and procedures among individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) with substance abuse problems and psychological healthy individuals.
