    Scientific Improvements

    Forensic science is often extremely useful for criminal investigation. However, it could use improvement. While actions are being taken to improve forensic science, there is much to be done.

    Technology continues to be a base for the improvement of forensic science. For example, Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) uses computers to organize DNA profiles. This distributed database allows controlled access to information and allows investigators to link crimes to each other and convicted offenders. For more information, see the CODIS link below.

    Legislation is also being used to help eliminate DNA analysis backlogs and improve forensic science through funding and process control.
