Starting a Test

1) On the BULA home page you should see the text "Student Login". If not, select Student Login button at the bottom.

2) In the Username box, type your username. (This is the name that your instructor will see.)

3) In the Test Code box: If you were given a code from your instructor, type the code there. Otherwise, leave it blank and select a language to do a self-test.

4) Click start

Taking a Test

1) After inputting you name and code and starting the test you will go to a new screen. There you should see an "Abandon Test" button in the upper-left hand corner. You can quit at anytime with that button. Your testcode and name should be to the right of the Abandon Test button. There will be some brief instructions and a large green "Start the Test" button. When ready, click the Start button.

2) You will be presented with a series on words in the target language in black boxes. Click the ones you know the meaning of (they will become blue. Blue = you know it). When you have clicked on all of the words you know. Click "Submit".

3) Next, you will presented with one of the words you said you knew in red. Below the word will be some black boxes with possible translations. Click the BEST translation for the word.

4) Steps 2 & 3 will repeat until the test is over.

5) Don't race through the test to get to the end.
If you don't take the test seriously, please abandon it. The reason is that we use the mixture of the words you know and don't know in order to reconfigure the test for future performance. Thus, we care about the test data that we collect. So, if you started a test and decide you don't want to finish, please abandon it rather than clicking through things without looking at the words.

5) Select the language from the drop down and then click "create test".

6) A test code and URL will appear below the dark grey form box. A test code consists of two random words followed by two random numbers (e.g., QuietEdge85). You will provide this code to your students. For now, ignore the URL. It will be integrated into future functionality, but currently the only info the student needs is the test code.

7) When you are finished, click "Logout" at the right hand side of the screen.
