Bio

Ken Laszlo graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in spring 2012 with a BS in chemistry. While there he participated in undergraduate research with Dr. Facundo Fernández investigating cyclodextrins as mobility shift reagents in ion mobility – mass spectrometry (IM-MS). Since beginning with in the Bush Lab in summer 2012, Ken has researched gas-phase ion/ion reactions.

Research

  • Cation to Anion Proton Transfer Reactions (CAPTR): I have performed several experiments involving gas-phase proton transfer from multiply charged cation native-like protein ions to anions. We are exploring this technology for analytical purposes, as well as to study the gas-phase folding of denatured proteins.
  • Electron Transfer Dissociation Mechanisms: In collaboration with the computational data provided by the Tureček group, we have investigated the structure of c and z fragment ions. Our research has shown that fragmentation pathways are dependent on reactive intermediate structures following electron transfer.

Awards

  • 2014-15 Graduate Student Merit Fellowship (~5-10 annually, issued by the University of Washington Department of Chemistry)
  • Molecular Biophysics Training Grant (MBTG) recipient (2-4 awards annually within biophysical sciences at UW)
  • Richard A. Schaeffer Memorial Travel Award (62nd Annual American Society of Mass Spectrometry Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Applied Topics, June 2015, ~four awards annually)
  • ARCS Fellowship, Seattle Chapter (2012-2015, ~35 awards annually across WA)
