Dear Foster School Community:

I want to give you a brief update you on a change you’ve begun to see in the Foster Business Library.

We’re in the process of merging our periodical stacks and book stacks on the Balmer side of the library. This means that print periodicals will be arranged by call number instead of by title. You can get the call number for any journal held by the UW by looking it up in the Libraries Catalog. The Catalog also provides links to journals for which we have online access.
http://catalog.lib.washington.edu/

Why are we doing it now?

Over the years more and more of our journals have become available online and our print journal collection has become smaller, so this is something we would have eventually done anyway. The main reason we’re doing it now is that we need to clear the area currently occupied by our Periodicals stacks for our upcoming PACCAR Hall-related library renovation. In the renovated space, that area will be a new entrance and Circulation Desk. We
also want to take advantage of a concurrent collections project that allowed us to relocate 18,000 seldom used print volumes to the Libraries’ remote shelving facility at Sand Point.

Most of our collection shifts should be completed by the end of 2008. If you’re looking for something that you think should be here but can’t find, please contact one of the library staff and we’ll help track it down for you. You can also use the “Request” button on the Libraries Catalog to request that Foster Library staff pull a specific journal volume for you and hold it at the Circulation Desk.

Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.

-Gordon

The Northwest Historical Annual Reports Collection is a growing digital collection of annual financial reports of companies currently or historically based in the Pacific Northwest. The collection includes annual reports dating from the 1930s and provides a continuous run of annual reports for most of the companies up to the 1990s.

The Collection currently includes reports from Boeing, Paccar and Weyerhaeuser and we are in the process of adding more.
