Secure Services meeting minutes for 6/4/01

Attendees: Rick, Cindy, Trina, Donn, Harold, Bob, Heidi, Mark

 - mcis and c&c coordination 
   . Ken Chu is planning on submitting a telnet warning for 
     aagaard. it will be installed when received.
   . mcis refers users to our web page if they are at home 
     or using the uwick
   . mcis is installing x11 ssh tunneling 
   . problem email users use Yahoo and use POP access to uw. 
     this will break and there is no workaround except to 
     change client.
   . C&C has an 'other' web page that lists what we know 
     about other/nonsupported email clients.

 - Dante unsecure number about 10,000. 
    . Donn will do a quick double check.
    . Rick will try to get a My UW and UW HOme page 
      alert installed by Wed
    . insecure telnet message will show date and warning
      in all caps by Wed
    . we will decide if we need to span telnet users based
      on how the figures look by next meeting

 - Keynes
   . Heidi will rephrase the driver message and reset 
     the flag so every sees it
   . concensus was there's no need to send all keynes 
     users email again
 
 - Oren will present a Secure Services status update at 
   the Support Mtg (7th)

 - 2nd round of email warnings went out.  
   . Fewer than before, but still quite a few.
   . 3rd round will go out today.  this message now
     lists all addresses a users used and when.
   . messages will be done daily starting thursday (24 hr window)
   . we do have an non-secure imap server for 'exceptions' 
     that are approved.  this server's clients will be reviewed
     after the conversion and plans made to migrate all users
     off of it.

 - conversion
   . software changes will be installed at 12:01am wed morning.
   . homer02 is view of future.  should have telnet warning
     message that doesn't prompt for password, and informs user
     why telnet isn't working.
