Faculty and Fellow Research Interests

R
esearch experience is an important component of the Cardiology Fellowship Program. Fellows are encouraged to participate in ongoing research activities during
UW Medical Center

UW Health Sciences complex

their clinical rotations. In addition, since formulation of a research plan is an essential aspect of research training, all fellows are expected to apply for research grants during the second year of training.

Research may be performed in collaboration with Division of Cardiology faculty (either clinical or basic research projects) or under the supervision of faculty in other departments such as bioengineering, physiology, health services, molecular biology and biostatistics. Below is a list of current Division of Cardiology faculty and areas of major research interest. Applicants are encouraged to use on-line searches to review recent faculty publications.

Faculty research interests

Head, Division of Cardiology
Robb MacLellan, MD
  • The main interest in my lab is to understand the molecular mechanisms that regulate cardiac failure and develop therapies to regenerate myocardium. We extensively use genetic mouse models in an attempt to correlate molecular insights with whole organ physiology. The long-term goal of my research to develop stem cell and tissue engineering strategies to repair the heart.
