Referring Patients

Patients may be referred electively by contacting Deci Taylor, patient care coordinator, at (206) 598-0190, or on an emergency basis by paging the transplant attending on call through UWMC paging at (206) 598-6190.

Five full-time, transplant-trained cardiologists, Drs. Daniel Fishbein, Director, Wayne Levy, Kevin O'Brien, April Stempien-Otero and Carol Buchter, as well as Elina Minami (part-time) support UWMC's advanced heart failure/cardiac transplant inpatient and outpatient services. More than 200 people have had heart transplants at UWMC; 20 to 25 transplants are performed here each year.

New mechanical devices, including the HeartMate and Abiomed ventricular assist devices, are available as bridges to transplantation.
