Andrea Blanken graduated from UW Bothell’s IAS program in 2002 with a concentration in Culture, Literature, and the Arts. After graduating from UW, she moved to New York City to pursue a master’s degree in Museum Studies at NYU. While attending NYU, she worked at three museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, utilizing her CLA skills while developing a passion for the challenges of fundraising for the arts. Andrea moved back to Seattle in 2006 and accepted a corporate relations position at SAM. She is thrilled to have joined the Pacific Science Center in September of 2008 as a Corporate Relations Officer.

What you do today on campus sets the foundation for your future career. The courses Ernest Kandilige took in the IAS program adequately prepared him to face the challenges of the workplace. Ernest started working for Genie Industries as a Production Specialist in 2004 while attending UWB. Shortly after Graduation, Ernest started a career in Human Resources as a Human Resources Coordinator administering a variety of HR programs. In 2008, he used his versatile training from IAS and joined the Learning and Development team at Genie Industries as a Learning Specialist. Ernest operates in a fast pace environment at Genie Industries which is a leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment.

Lara uses her environmental and communications background to translate technical data and provide logistical support on a variety of projects. She has coordinated several successful public open houses, managed project deadlines, and communicated project information to the public. At EnviroIssues Lara uses her environmental background coupled with her organizational and communication skills to assist with multiple transportation projects as well as coordinate summer outreach at fairs and festivals in the region.

Leiann began her career as a Human Resources Assistant for an interactive computer game company immediately following graduation. She quickly decided she wanted to transition into education and began working for a small, private college in 2000. She began as an Admissions Counselor and worked up to an Assistant Director of Admissions. After working for five years with college aged students she decided to begin working with high school aged children and enjoy the school year schedule as a soon to be mother. Beginning in 2005 to present she has been the College and Career Center Specialist for Mariner High School. She works with high school students preparing them for college and post high school plans. Her small group, Latino College Prep, has been featured on Univision (Hispanic television program) as well as the Everett Herald. She is also pursuing her Master’s in Education in Guidance Counseling.

Police Captain, Commander of Seattle Police Department's Ethics and Professional Responsibility Section, which also includes Racial and Social Justice BIO: Neil Low, a veteran police commander, was promoted to captain in 2001, while in his senior year at UWB. He graduated, 2003, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative US Studies. As a police captain, Neil has commanded several sections within the Seattle Police Department, including: Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Internal Affairs, Violent Crimes (Homicide, Robbery, CSI, Federal Task Forces, and Gangs), and he is the Department's first Ethics and Professional Responsibility commander. Neil is a published author, with his new mystery novel, THICK as THIEVES, now available from Tigress Publishing at local bookstores and on Amazon.com. Neil wrote some of the book's chapters at the UWB library and donated one of the first copies to the school library. THIEVES, a 1940's era noir mystery, garnered rave reviews from noted authors Lowen Clausen and Ann Rule. Neil has two more mystery novels in the works: SIGN of the DRAGON, a sequel to THICK as THIEVES, which has a planned release for mid-summer, and STRAYS, which Amazon.com has invited him to submit to their national contest/search for promising writers.
