If you are interested in health care delivery and access, business management, becoming a leader, or just making a difference, a career in health care management may be right for you. This is a field that includes people from many different academic and personal backgrounds. Join alumni, students, and staff of the UW Master of Health Administration (MHA) Program to learn all about this excellent career option.

Cheryl Arnett is a 2007 graduate of the University of Washington's MHA Program. Since graduation, she has been the Program Coordinator for the Pediatric Palliative Care Consulting Service at Seattle Children's Hospital. She recently assumed an additional position as the End of Life Care Project Manager, an initiative to improve terminal care throughout the entire hospital. Before entering the MHA Program, Cheryl was a Lab Manager and Study Coordinator at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

John Hammarlund is a 1986 graduate of the University of Washington's MHA Program. He the Regional Administrator for the Seattle and Chicago offices of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that oversees the Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP health insurance programs. He works with health care stakeholders in ten states of the Pacific Northwest and Midwest. John has worked in both the public and private sectors and on both coasts. He was a senior policy analyst in CMS's Office of Legislation in Washington, DC, where he wrote Medicare legislation. He also advised managed care organizations on compliance with Medicaid and HIPAA regulations at the American Association of Health Plans (now AHIP). He was the Director of Finance for nursing services at Providence Medical Center in Seattle, and held internship positions at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound and the Washington State Hospital Association.

Sharon Elefant is a current student in the University of Washington's MHA Program. Before joining the Program, she worked as Business Systems Specialist for Salem Hospital and graduated from Oregon State University with a bachelor's degree in health management and policy. She completed her summer internship with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Uzoma Mmeje is a current student in the University of Washington's MHA Program. Before joining the Program, he was a research assistant for the California Black Health Network. He completed his summer internship with Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, and is now seeking an administrative fellowship.
