This project indexes the collection of Northwest Indian tales in the
Manuscripts, Special Collections, University Archives Division of the Allen
Library with Library of Congress call numbers up to about the year 1987.
Tales are sorted by tribe and region when possible. Other categories include
the main characters and psychological motifs such as "married to bear" or
"abandoned boy". A sincere attempt was made to be succinct and consistent in the
categorization. In all, approximately 3,000 tales in about 80 books are sorted
in this database.
