Research at CCFW focuses on promoting child well-being using a whole-child or bioecolocial approach. Researchers include over 20 faculty from across the UW, including psychology, psychiatry, nursing, social work, pediatrics, medicine, and education, collaborating in transdisciplinary programs of research. Research initiatives include: 

  • Addressing the effects of disadvantage and adversity on children, with an emphasis on the role of parents and families in promoting well-being.
  • Enhancing children’s social, emotional and cognitive competence, with a focus on self-regulation or executive function, and an emphasis on parent engagement and parenting strategies.
  • Infusing mindfulness, compassion and social-emotional skills in research, policy and practice with children, parents, educators and providers working with children.
