Project International Scholarship in Occupational Health
Support to attend the Master Program at UW: I attended UW for two years (2000-2001). I am still working on thesis for the Master Program in Environmental Health with a focus on Industrial Hygiene.
Support with the Construction Safety Training Program. Costa Rica Institute of Technology, the Region X of OSHA and Fogarty Schoolarship are developing a Training Program for workers and trainers in construction safety. Costarrican workers and trainers have the certification from OSHA. We have around 70 trainers and 600 workers enrolled in the program and we hope to reach 5000 workers in the coming five years. (Courses OSHA 500 and 510)
General Industry Training Program: on September 2006 we start with a similar training experience, not in construction but in industry. A 30 hours safety training was developed with 30 people (Course OSHA 511) and we hope to certified these people (Course OSHA 501) early next year.
About Carlos Mata I am professor, I work for the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (Occupational Safety and Environmental Health School). As a professor I teach the following courses: Risk Management, Chemical Agents (lecture), Chemical Agents (lab) and Research Methodology. I have research projects related with wood dust occupational exposure and wood dust control, additionally I am working with unions in a capacity building project.
