National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN)

The UNAN, the oldest institution of higher learning in Nicaragua has a very active Preventive Medicine program within the School of Medicine. A large focus within the Program is occupational health. Faculty include specialists in Occupational Medicine, Industrial Hygiene and Epidemiology. Active research areas include injury research, pesticide health effects and occupational hazard mapping among others.

• Richard Gleason, Safety and Health Management, OSHA 7500, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua, Nicaragua. Outreach Program of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua, Leon. Mr. Gleason was a Science Fair Judge
• Kate Stuart, Barbara Silverstein and Ernesto Carcamo, Applied Ergonomics, National Autonomous University of Nicaragua training program in Occupational Medicine.
• Dr. Linda Forst was supported in her travel to Leon Nicaragua where she worked with Dr. Aurora Aragon, our main collaborator in Nicaragua, to develop curriculum for future courses in occupational and environmental health, and on occupational medicine clinical approaches for the UNAN.

Planned Courses for UNAN

Ergonomics Training
Kate Stuart and Barbara Silverstein will return to Nicaragua to present another course on ergonomics and musculoskeletal injuries in Nicaragua in conjunction with the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua training program in Occupational Medicine.
