He continued his education at the University of Washington, where he earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Engineering in 2021. His doctoral research focused on synthetic biology and the development of dCas9-based genetic control systems for metabolic engineering. Outside of his scientific pursuits, Ben enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including gardening, skiing, trail running, and mountaineering.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jackie McDonald<\/strong> &#8211; Research Scientist III<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-2 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"391\" height=\"391\" src=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/cdbrm\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/JackieMcDonald.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2761\" style=\"width:193px;height:auto\" srcset=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/cdbrm\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/JackieMcDonald.png 391w, http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/cdbrm\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/JackieMcDonald-300x300.png 300w, http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/cdbrm\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/JackieMcDonald-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 391px) 100vw, 391px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Jackie received her B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Arizona. She began her career at the Translational Genomics Research Institute, working in the sequencing center. After relocating to Seattle, she spent nine years in the Myler lab, where she developed assays and data analysis pipelines to study the transcriptional and epigenomic landscape of Leishmania. She then completed a year of training in computational biology with the Research and Scientific Computing team at Seattle Children\u2019s Hospital through the Retaining Excellence program. Jackie is excited to bring her combined wet and dry lab experience to the Nguyen lab, where she investigates the functional genomic mechanisms underlying kidney disease.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sania Kowkuntla &#8211;<\/strong> Undergraduate Researcher<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-3 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"814\" height=\"814\" src=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/cdbrm\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SaniaKowkuntla.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2759\" style=\"width:220px;height:auto\" srcset=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/cdbrm\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SaniaKowkuntla.jpeg 814w, http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/cdbrm\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SaniaKowkuntla-300x300.jpeg 300w, http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/cdbrm\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SaniaKowkuntla-150x150.jpeg 150w, http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/cdbrm\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SaniaKowkuntla-768x768.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 814px) 100vw, 814px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sania is currently attending the University of Washington, pursuing a major in MCD Biology and a minor in data science. A personal experience with nephrotic syndrome sparked her interest in nephrology and fueled her aspiration to attend medical school, with a specific focus on studying chronic kidney disorders in pediatric patients. Currently, Sania is conducting research in the Nguyen Lab, where she is gaining hands-on experience in immunofluorescence staining and utilizing confocal microscopy for imaging.
