CCM is a Pre-Health organization striving to increase the number of under-represented minorities in Healthcare and committed to improving the health outcomes of under-served minority populations in our community through education and activism. CCM is a Registered Student Organization.
MAPS is dedicated to helping undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds realize their potential in health care fields. MAPS provides its student members with opportunity to find mentors, and to promote enhanced health among minorities. MAPS UW was established in 1999 and is a chapter of the national organization Minority Association of Pre-Health Students. MAPS UW is affiliated with the parent group, the Student National Medical Association and National Medical Association. MAPS is a Registered Student Organization.
SHPEP is an intensive 6-week summer program open to freshman and sophomore college students. Students from the WWAMIO region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho and Oregon), community colleges and tribal colleges are especially encouraged to apply. The program offers students academic and clinic experiences that expose them to medicine and dentistry. The UW has been a SHPEP from the past 27 years, and has consistently been rated among the top programs in the contry. SHPEP at UW is a collaboration between the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. SHPEP is partially supported by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
The Health Professions Academy (HPA) is a comprehensive professional development program for University of Washington undergraduate students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are aspiring to become physicians and dentists. The goal of the HPA is to provide participating students with opportunities to develop the academic skills and participate in experiences outside of the classroom that are needed to successfully compete for entry into health professional schools.
