A Free Community
Event! You are invited!
Scientists
have created a map of our DNA. Many people hope this
information will help fight disease and improve health.
Yet these scientific advances raise ethical, legal,
and social questions and have implications for our
communities.
- How
can I protect my family's privacy?
- How
will genetic information be used in the legal system?
- Will
the cost of health care increase or decrease?
- Will
genetics reduce health disparities?
The Community Forum will provide a place to discuss
the promises and challenges of genetics, with a special
focus on the ethical, social, and legal implications.
Speakers and session facilitators include:
- Francis
Collins, director, National Human Genome Research
Institute
- Sharon
Terry, executive director, Genetic Alliance
- Ralph
Forquera, executive director, Seattle Indian
Health Board
- Makani
Themba-Nixon, executive director, The Praxis Project.
Forum
participants will have the opportunity to think about
society and genetics, to learn from each other, and
to raise questions directly with researchers in small group
breakout sessions. You are invited! The conference
is free,
but please RSVP (RSVP
Form, .pdf document).
