Mission: The Institute for Scholarship on Engineering Education (ISEE) is a year long intense, interactive, and hands-on approach for impacting engineering education in a scholarly way. ISEE seeks to advance engineering education by:

ISEE 2006-07 Theme: This year's theme is diversity where the focus is on addressing the engineering education needs of the 21st century. The theme of diversity incorporates a “nation as laboratory” idea that builds on the themes of the previous two Institutes: “class as lab” (hosted by University of Washington 2004-05) and “campus as lab” (hosted by Stanford University 2005-06). A “nation as lab” theme emphasizes the need to approach engineering education from ALL perspectives and asks the questions: what do we know about our students and what brings them to engineering and keeps them there, what can we learn about ways to impact institutional cultures, what are key principles behind exemplary programs that can inform scaling up or adaptation in other settings, and what are ways of knowing that leverage different perspectives that promote innovative and effective solutions to ever-increasing complex social and technological problems?

The ISEE 2006-07 Experience: The ISEE 2006-07 Scholars will meet for a Summer Summit “kick-off” meeting at Howard University in Washington, D.C. on July 9-14, 2006. ISEE 2006-07 continues with activities during the academic year to facilitate each participant conducting an ISEE project on their home campus, and culminates in a final Leadership Meeting of Scholars in the autumn of 2007.
