Fuels and Chemicals From Alternative Resources
In order to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, we must develop energy-efficient, economically-viable alternatives based on our US resources (coal, oil shale and renewable carbon feedstocks). Our agriculture and forest resources represent domestic sources of biorenewables that can be used in the production of greenhouse-gas neutral polymers, fine chemicals, and clean fuels. Our goal is to develop catalytic processes for efficient conversion of all biomass components into fuel and value-added chemicals.

Technical details on our current research in this area:

Non-Enzymatic Disassembly of Lignocellulose

Tandem Catalysis to Convert Carbohydrates to Chemicals

High Value Chemicals from Glycerol by Hydrogenolysis

Alkane Metathesis
