OnPAR launched in 2016 in partnership with the National Institute of Health (NIH). OnPAR has now expanded to accept reviewed, high scoring abstracts from all research investigators globally. OnPAR is a matchmaking platform where applicants and non-government funders come together. Government, private foundations, private foundations, pharmaceutical companies, venture capital funds, and other funds for biomedical research are part of a funding ecosystem that supports global biomedical research. Their goal is to support research and drug development for the advancement of public health. Over the last decade, these organizations have begun working together to build on their complementary strengths. OnPAR is a new funding paradigm that seeks to build public-private partnerships within the funding ecosystem.
How does it work?
OnPar provides innovative and exceptional research applications with a second opportunity for funding. Conceptually, the stability and success of OnPAR rests on three pillars:
- Applicants: submit their highly scored unfunded applications to OnPAR.
- Members: review research projects and select those that match their research priority areas for potential partnering/funding.
- Partners: manage the review process of research applications that are submitted to OnPAR.
