Avant-Garde awards (five year awards at $500K direct costs/year) support high-risk, potentially transformative research that will open new areas of HIV/AIDS research and/or may lead to new avenues for treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS among drug users.

Awardees must commit 35% effort to the Avant-Garde project. Many awardees in past years have been CFAR affiliated researchers. The receipt date for the DP1 application is November 6, 2013.
